While I devote 98% of the content of these emails to financial markets and junior mining, there are times when I feel called to discuss other topics. This morning is one of those times. In the last few years I have noticed a trend of freedom of speech coming under an increasingly strong assault globally. In some countries this attack is stronger than in others. However, make no mistake that there are efforts to censor and 'guide' people's attention, thinking, and speech throughout the world.

Benjamin Franklin once said "Whoever would overthrow the liberty of a nation must begin by subduing the freeness of speech."

We see this taking place not only in China and Russia, but also in Canada, and even in the United States. While the degrees of punishment for speaking freely are quite different in these countries (in Russia you will be imprisoned for speaking out against the invasion of Ukraine or saying something negative about Putin, whereas, in the US you may be banned from social media for questioning the efficacy of the Pfizer vaccine), the reality is that freedom of speech and freedom of thought are universally under assault.

In Canada, once thought to be one of the most tolerant and free countries on the planet, we have seen a leftist 'leader' wage a war against those who made a personal choice to not receive an experimental vaccine. Furthermore, some of these free thinking Canadians had the gall to publicly protest government imposed vaccine mandates that greatly affected their ability to work and move about freely.

Never mind that mounting evidence continues to support the notion that the vaccines are mildly effective at best, and absolutely do not prevent one from contracting or spreading covid. In fact, the CDC has gone as far as to inform us that vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals should be treated the same and that multi-jabbed individuals are more likely to contract covid multiple times.

So much for all that 'follow the science' bullshit.

While we have few privacies left on this planet, may we at least stand for freedom of speech. And that means freedom of speech even for those with whom we vehemently disagree. If we allow ourselves and others to be told what to think and say we will have lost our last shred of liberty and humanity. No one has a monopoly on Truth, and we should be most skeptical of those who claim to be the final arbiters of Truth.

“If liberty means anything at all, it means the right to tell people what they do not want to hear.” ~ George Orwell

“If freedom of speech is taken away, then dumb and silent we may be led, like sheep to the slaughter.” ~ George Washington
